Health and Safety Fine Tops £1.8million!

This week we have seen one of the country’s leading construction and services groups prosecuted on Health and Safety grounds for a third time in the past year. With the most recent fine being the largest at £1.8million, the company has now set aside a huge budget of £8million as a provision for health and safety incidents next year.

A second fine was also issued to the subcontractor for the works totalling £75,000 – again for breaching Health and Safety regulations after the affected party died from the extensive injuries incurred.

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) reached the decision that the prosecution of both companies was necessary after it found that the operation of the road planer was not carried out in a way that ensured both vehicles and pedestrians could move safely around the roadworks.

In light of the findings it’s questionable if the correct equipment was in use and if Risk Assessments had been completed and actioned.

The use of correct signage is paramount in these instances.  Here at Spectrum Industrial we can help with all signage requirements – remember our signage range covers all varieties of signs whilst our custom team is on hand to help with any bespoke enquiries you may have.
